The conference focuses on critical social and political theory. It follows its first conference directors, Jürgen Habermas and Gajo Petrovic and construes critical social and political theory broadly.

This conference marked the launch of the ERC Project RECONCILE, titled "Community Through Constitution: Researching How Constitutions Construct Identity and Legitimacy in Europe and MENA." It was hosted by the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies in Doha, Qatar.

This conference aims to discuss the contours of a new constitutional methodology and interpret the preliminary results of qualitative research regarding citizens’ constitutional attitudes in selected countries in the EU and the MENA region.
