A brief about the institute
The institute focuses on interdisciplinary research on constitutionalism across legally, politically, and culturally diverse regions. Its mission is to advance innovative research that integrates insights from constitutional-legal theory, political science, and sociology, employing qualitative empirical methods.
From November 1, 2021, to October 30, 2023, its activities were funded by the ERC CZ grant No. LL2106 for the project Identity and Constitutionalism: The Ability of Institutions to Shape Political Communities in the EU-MENAP Region. This project explores how institutions in distinct regions serve as primary discursive tools for shaping political community identities (for more details, see the RECONCILE Project page).
The institute's research team reflects its interdisciplinary and regional focus, comprising experts in comparative constitutional law, particularly in transatlantic and MENA regions, alongside specialists in political philosophy, empirical methods, and project coordination (see the section below for short biographies of the research team members).
The institute continues its activities with long-term funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme in 2024 for its project Community Through Constitution, which examines how constitutions shape identity and legitimacy in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
